I'm Going To Need Some Honesty Here

I've watched a few episodes from Super now and I've seen some synopsis' for the manga, and I can't help but feel when I watch things like Dragonball Absalon or read Dragonball Multiverse that (in Absalon's case anyway) despite the rough animation (or bad voice acting) or sometimes lackluster drawings that they're superior in terms of anything else. I know that I have to wait until U6 to get anything good but... even then it's still only going to be Goku and Vegeta and maybe some other universe warriors and not the ones we're teased from the original universe to be useful. Does anyone else feel like this? Or am I the only one?

My Dear Melancholy,

You're basically asking if fan works are superior and have more work into it right?

DBM and Super are both inconsistent messes with unlikeable main characters, but the art in DBM is generally better and only half of it is filler(vs two whole sagas of filler in Super)

I wouldn't use Absalon or DBM of fan works being superior to the real thing even if I find the latter quite enjoyable. However, I would say I've seen a good amount of fan fics or fan manga that manage to execute things from the series a lot better than Toriyama himself ever could. They might not capture "the spirit of Dragon Ball" but I've certainly gotten more enjoyment out of reading them than most of the post Namek stuff.

Absalon is utter trash. Practically everything about it is unlikable IMO.

More or less, yeah.

My Dear Melancholy,

I don't like Abaslon because the creator blocked me for saying his music is too loud and he told the fanfic awards guy not to make me in contention for YouTube fan fiction of the year.

What the hell? All over saying the music is too loud? Did the fanfic awards guy listen to him?

Sorry for being off topic but that's some stupid s***.

I have to agree. DBM is far from perfect, but it's much closer to good than Super, and probably GT as well. The nice thing about it is that, even though he's sort of spiteful and a generally poor/mediocre writer (U16), Salagir actually likes DBZ and DBM has a creative spark behind it. It's more than I can say for Super, at least.

I don't know anything about Absalom so I can't any much on it. But as for as Multiverse goes, honestly its far superior to Dragon Ball Super. It's clear that Salagirl and the main artists care a lot for the series and while they may take a few questionable creative detours here and there, they obviously want to create new ideas, they want to implement interesting points and create a story, not a object of merchandise.

More importantly, something like Multiverse in the end, is merely a object of a fans work. I can criticize its work and story but I can't exactly complain about it as it's a free work done by fans for the enjoyment of other fans. I think some of the specials like the notorious Bojack one are absolute crap but I'm not going to say it needs to be canceled because in the end, I'm really not being affected.

However Toei Animation is a huge studio which actually makes money off of their products. They are a group that is expected to turn out quality work and in the past, has shown the capability. When Toei Animation brings out the low quality crap that's been doing in Super and yet still expects the same measure of a profit from buyers is where I draw the line. It's a huge smack to the fans and buyer's faces and it something I won't stand for.

In the end, Multiverse was something in which a lot of effort for very little, if any profit beyond some fanart or something at a con or something was done.

Super was the opposite, something which very little effort was put into and yet a huge profit is still expected to come out of it.

DBM has allot of problems with it but in the end I would rather pay for and read it over DBS. There's a spark and effort behind DBM that I can't say the same for TOEI's outing. Plus it generally looks better than DBS.

I think we can all agree that even with all its problems, we can thank DBM for two things. 1) handling post-Boo Vegeta in a way that doesn't regress or make him into a caricature of himself and 2) Zen Boo.

Yeah. He's well known for blocking if you give him a negative comment. Even if it's 97% positive.

He even randomly decided to quit Abaslon until a week later as he wanted money.

I would rather take a dump and look at the particles moving around in the toilet bowl than watch Super. It's a more compelling story after all.

"It all started with one apple that was digested on a frosty winter morning."

That plot line already has me more interested than a rehash of two films that have already f***ing come out! Like come on Toriyama/Toei, have some sense here. You can't make your fans wait over half of a damn year to see some new content, that just isn't what's best for business.

I have never seen Absalon but I'm a big fan of DBM. Super isn't bad. I think it gets a lot of hate bc of the retelling and all, people are so inpatient and want the new material. I get that but I just don't think people should be bitter towards Super because of recycled stuff but I just think once it's finished and we can look at it as a whole it'll be a decent peice of work.

Some say DBS is a cash grab. I can't say I necessarily disagree but DBM is made by ppl that are passionate about DB and making manga, much like Toriyama was back in the say. That's why it could be superior to some.
